Project: Chawathil 4 Creek Restoration Trail

What is this Project?

Current restoration initiatives for the creek at Chawathil 4 present an opportunity to develop a new trail that enhances recreational access for community members. This trail was identified as a priority project in Chawathil First Nation’s Active Transportation Network Plan in 2024. Once complete, the trail would offer a connection from Chawathil Road to the Enbridge pipeline right-of-way trail.

How Has the Community Been Engaged?

A creek trail was identified as a priority project to improve active transportation on Chawathil 4. The project received support from Chief and Council, Nation members, and advisory groups as part of the engagement process for the Active Transportation Network Plan.

A community open house was held on February 4, 2025, to engage Nation members on the creek trail, among other projects. Nation members were provided with resources and asked to share feedback, questions and concerns related to the project.

What is the Project’s Expected Timeline?

The project is currently in the design phase. A 2metre wide gravel trail is proposed. The final alignment of the trail is to be confirmed. The design work has been partially funded by Trans Canada Trail.
