Working Together - As One
Project: Chawathil 4 Enbridge Pipeline Right-of-Way Trail
What is this Project?
A trail along the right-of-way for the Enbridge pipeline was identified as a priority project in Chawathil First Nation’s Active Transportation Network Plan in 2024. This dedicated right-of-way cannot be used for any other purpose and limits new development in Chawathil 4. A trail connection would offer an alternative to Highway 7, allowing community members to safely and comfortably access housing and other destinations on foot or by wheel.
Requires collaboration with Enbridge – funding is likely available to design and implement segments of the trail.
How Has the Community Been Engaged?
The Enbridge Pipeline Right-of-Way Trail was identified as a priority project to improve active transportation on Chawathil 4. The project received support from Chief and Council, Nation members, and advisory groups as part of the engagement process for the Active Transportation Network Plan.
A community open house was held on February 4, 2025, to engage Nation members on the Enbridge Pipeline Right-of-Way Trail, among other projects. Nation members were provided with resources and asked to share feedback, questions and concerns related to the project.
What is the Project’s Expected Timeline?
The project is currently in the design phase. As construction would need to occur in phases, Chawathil First Nation is considering which segment should be prioritized.
