Chawathil is a member of both the Tiyt Tribe and the Stó:lō Tribal Council. Chawathil First Nation is led by six Councilors and one Chief, all elected by the membership as defined in the Custom Election Code for a 3-year term.
Elections are held in July every 3 years. The Chief and Council are responsible for governing the Nation through the Departments in Administration. The Chawathil Custom Election Code and Governance Policy guides the practices of the Chief and Council and how they direct the staff. Chief and Council are responsible for approving the Laws, Polices and Procedures that guide the staff in their daily functions.
Chief and Council directs the Chief Administrative Officer who works with departments to implement directions, programs and services to the membership.
