Date of Notice: August 18, 2025
Subject: Scheduled Work on Schkam IR#2, September 8 – October 3 (Hours of Work will be between 8AM and 5PM)
Purpose: Please be advised that preliminary site preparation work for the BC Housing Chawathil First Nation Affordable Housing Project will take place from September 8 – October 3, 2025. This will include removing trees, bushes, stumps and other plants from the site so the land is construction ready. This work will occur mainly on the south lots shown in red on the site map below.
We understand the significance of these trees to the land and the community. Only the trees directly impacted by the construction will be removed, and we will explore opportunities for replanting or restoration after the project is complete. Wherever possible, the wood will be cut up and shared as firewood for Elders in the community.
Once the site is cleared, the Chawathil Archeological Team will be on site to carefully dig small trenches to check for any important cultural or historical materials before construction continues.
