SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Chawathil Social Development is funded through ISC and provides assistance to members for shelter, food, and Income Assistance.
The Income Assistance program provides funds to individuals (known as clients) and families (clients and their dependents) who are ordinarily residents on reserve or Status First Nations as a last resort where all other means of generating income to cover basic needs have been exhausted. We also offer home making services as part of assisted living.
The Income Assistance program is a component of Canada’s social safety net meant to align with provincial income assistance programs. The objective of the program is to ensure that eligible individuals and families residing on reserve receive funds to cover the basic expenses of daily living, special needs, as well as pre-employment services designed to help them transition to the workforce.
Chawathil believes in supporting its members in achieving their goals. While the current programs are funding based Chawathil Chief and Council and Staff are always looking for ways to provide assistance to the membership both on and off reserve.
Recently, Chawathil secured funding to organize food hampers for community members in need, as well as to develop an expanded community garden aimed at supplying fresh produce to residents.
